What is exosome therapy?
THE TARGETED MESSENGERS
Exosomes are nano-sized vesicles that carry signaling molecules and growth factors involved in cell-to-cell communication, healing, and tissue repair. In the context of hair, the goal of exosome therapy is to deliver these signals to the scalp to encourage dormant or miniaturized follicles back toward an active growth phase and to support a healthier follicular environment. It is a non-surgical, minimally invasive approach with little downtime.
The science is genuinely promising but still emerging. Early studies are encouraging, but large, high-quality human trials are limited, and outcomes vary between individuals. We give every patient a candid picture of what exosome therapy can and cannot be expected to do for their specific stage of hair loss.
WHO IS A CANDIDATE
NHLMA has been a recognized pioneer of exosome therapy for over a decade.
Exosome therapy is generally discussed for adults with early- to moderate-stage hair loss, general thinning, or pattern baldness who still have active follicles, who want a non-surgical option, and who understand its investigational nature. At NHLMA, we use multiple exosome formulations and customize every treatment to your individual needs, helping optimize your potential for healthier, natural-looking hair growth.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
No. The FDA has stated there are currently no FDA-approved exosome products and has warned consumers about unapproved regenerative products. We share this so you can make an informed decision.
-
A topical numbing agent is commonly used, and most patients tolerate it well. It is minimally invasive with little downtime — some short-lived redness or tenderness is normal.
-
It is usually delivered as a planned series of sessions rather than a single visit, with maintenance afterward. Your specific plan is set during your evaluation.
-
PRP uses a concentrate from your own blood and has more published evidence for hair loss; exosome products are not from your blood and are not FDA-approved. Some patients consider them together — your clinician will advise.
-
Early research is promising, but large high-quality clinical trials are limited and individual results vary. We give a candid, evidence-based assessment during your consultation.
-
Depending on your evaluation, options may include PRP, microneedling, low-level laser therapy, and FDA-approved medical treatments such as minoxidil.
-
Cost depends on your plan: the number of sessions and whether exosome therapy is used with other treatments. So we provide clear pricing at your consultation rather than a one-size figure. Financing is available (through PatientFi) so the cost can be spread over time, and the initial hair-loss consultation is complimentary.
A note on regulatory status. Exosome therapy isn't FDA-approved for hair loss, and as with any emerging treatment, individual results vary and aren't guaranteed.1 We believe in being upfront about that — your clinician will walk you through the current evidence and the alternatives so you can decide what's right for you.
